This is a great bird feeder if your look for a way to keep squirrels (and even deers!)away from your feeders. The only drawback (and it’s the only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars) is it’s weight and limit to the number of birds that have access to the seeds (usually only one bird at a time).

Several great things about this feeder:
* our squirrels might be rather stupid, but it really does keep them out;
* the big birds quickly surmised that the feeder would not work for them, so they’ve given up;
* as others have noted, between the capacious container and the feeder working only for small birds who have a tendency to nibble a seed hull and all, it isn’t necessary to feed the feeder as often;
* the feeder is easy to keep clean.
At feeders with six or eight perches, I was used to seeing a lot of birds of different sizes feeding at once. It’s different with this feeder because only three small birds can fit on the tray and, at that, the birds need to be fairly congenial. It’s common to see one bird run off others because it wishes to feed alone, so the others wait chirpily on the roof.
It took some fiddling to adjust the feeder properly so that the heavier weights in the backyard would not be at home here but, having taken that trouble, the feeder is working just as we hoped it would.

This feeder is a fantastic squirrel proof feeder. We thought $40 was a lot of money to spend on a bird feeder, but you save that much in a couple of months in bird seed. Before we purchased this feeder the squirrels were eating us out of house and home and the birds never had a chance even to land on the feeder because the squirrels. We have had this feeder for about seven years and it works great. I would highly recommend this very well made product.

1. Holds a HUGE amount of bird food.
2. Keeps the squirrels out. It’s actually fun watching the squirrels try to get in!

I can say the squirrels stay away and the birds get their seed, but the construction of the feeder is odd and feels flimsy. The entire body detaches from the roof which makes refilling a bit awkward and having the perch on only one side makes hanging the thing with a proper view of the perch a challenge. Also, the plexiglass seems flimsy and was cracked when the feeder arrived — not really a problem now, but it may develop into one.
